Blog / Dust Control for Animal Feed Manufacturing
9th MARCH 2023
The animal feed manufacturing process has always been an area of concern regarding combustible dust. In the UK, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) governs the animal feed processing industry through the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) to ensure safe work environments.
Dust in animal feed manufacturing is typically created during the grinding, mixing, and pelleting processes. During grinding, feed ingredients are broken down into smaller particles, increasing the surface area and creating a lot of dust. The grinding process is usually followed by a mixing raw material together further increases dust levels. Finally, during the pelleting process, feed is compressed into pellets, creating more dust.
